Description:
Probably the best-kept secret in town, this four-story behemoth in a former 1930s fire station downtown is chock full of dazzling popular art from all 31 Mexican states. More than 2,000 exhibits showcase tapestries, weavings, colorful alebrijes (whimsical fantasy animal carvings from Oaxaca), huge papier mache figures, stunning "trees of life," folk costumes, ritual masks and others. Temporary exhibits of folk art from other countries are held on a routine basis.
