Galerie de la Presidence

Located opposite the Elysée Palace, Galerie de la Présidence was founded in 1971 by Françoise Chibret-Plaussu.

The gallery has a selection of Masters from the end of the 19th Century to the mid 20th Century is on permanent display. Included are Boudin, Corot, Cross, Derain, R.Dufy, Guillaumin, Laurencin, Marquet, Signac, Vlaminck, Vuillard, etc.

In 1985, the gallery organised an important Albert Marquet exhibition comprised of 50 oils, accompanied by a catalogue and, in 1987 a retrospective of Maurice de Vlaminck with 50 oils, mainly from the cezanian period. A catalogue also accompanied this exhibition.

In 2001, 50 watercolours by Paul Signac are displayed in the "Signac the Sailor" exhibition (catalogue) and in 2008, 45 watercolors of Henri-Edmond CROSS have been shown.

A special place is reserved for Marcel Gromaire, an artist whose work is permanently displayed in the gallery and for whom we organised three important exhibitions. Françoise Chibret-Plaussu, in collaboration with François Gromaire, produced the Catalogue raisonné of Marcel Gromaire's oils, which was published in 1993. The gallery is currently preparing the Catalogue raisonné of his watercolours.

With these regular exhibitions and strong values as a permanent base, Galerie de la Présidence is also recognised for its speciality in remembering some of the "forgotten" great artists of the Salon de la Jeune Peinture during the 1950s : artists such as Bernard Buffet, François Desnoyer, Michel de Gallard (exclusively exhibited by Galerie de la Présidence for 30 years), Edouard Goerg, Francis Gruber, Bernard Lorjou, André Marchand and Charles Walch, painters instinctively linked to the figurative tradition.
