The Déri Museum is situated in the middle of the town of Debrecen, at 1, Déri Square. The building of the museum was constructed after the designs of Györgyi Dénes and Münnich Aladár. The museum first opened in 1930.
The base of the collection was the material of the jeweler Löfkovics Artúr he donated to the Town Museum in 1902. The silk factory owner Déri Frigyes donated his collection (1852-1924) to the town of Debrecen in 1920. Following the example of his brother, Déri György gave his unpaired collection made up of varied folk artworks of the Carpathian Basin to the museum in 1038. Later famous ethnographers, historians and archeologists helped the collection grow larger.
