Movement: Renaissance (Late, Mannerism)
Theme: Nude
Technique: Chalk
Museum: National Gallery of Scotland
Location: Edinburgh, UK
Supplement of technique: Black chalk on faded blue paper, laid down (small piece cut from lower left margin),
Size: 24.50 x 16.80 cm,
Notes: This lightly-sketched drawing is reminiscent of the work of Domenico’s father Jacopo Tintoretto, and there is a possibility that it may in fact be by the older artist. Figures in positions like this recur frequently in the work of both artists, which is not surprising as Domenico trained with his father. This figure is shown bending forward, his head seen from the top and his left arm and upper torso strongly foreshortened. This difficult pose is drawn with great skill and using very few lines, which is testimony to the talent of the draughtsman.
