In the foreground, the Virgin Mary is comforted by Saint John the Evangelist and the Holy Women. Mary Magdalene stands at the foot of the cross, next to a group of mounted soldiers. The gates of Jerusalem and Judas hanging from a tree appear in the landscape background.
