Movement: Renaissance (Early Italian, "Quattrocento")
Theme: Portrait
Technique: Tempera
Museum: Pinacoteca di Brera
Location: Milan, Italy
Description:
Medium: panel,
Size: 49 x 31 cm,
Notes: Bianca Maria was the natural daughter of Filippo Maria, last Visconti, Duke of Milan. She married Francesco Sforza in 1432.
By means of an extremely delicate laying on of the tempera, Bembo has built up the face in diaphanously transparent layers that are perhaps a trifle cold. The masses achieve a quality of relief that is contained by the refinement of the colour and the elegance of the descriptive details.
