Suzanne Mooney is an Irish artist currently living in Japan. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Fine Art, Virtual Realities, from the National College of Art and Design Ireland (2005) and a BA in Fine Art from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design (2002). She has been awarded a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Postgraduate Scholarship for 2009-11 and is attending Nihon University, Graduate School of Arts in Tokyo.
Most recently, Mooney developed a new performance work for Project Brand New, performed in Project Arts Centre in Dublin, presented a solo exhibition at Signal Arts Centre in Ireland and has exhibited throughout Ireland and internationally. In 2007, while on residency at The National Studio in Seoul, she was selected, by the Director of Alternative Space Loop, for Propose 7 vol.2 exhibition at the Kumho Museum of Art in Seoul. She is also a founding member of FAF artists collective, a Dublin-based group, which facilitates discussion and critique between visual artists through their Showcase forum and is also an affiliate member of The Market Studios in Dublin.
Between 2005 and 2008, she was commissioned to produce Digital Scenography, by Dance Theatre of Ireland, for 3 original productions: Watermark, Exodus and Parallel Horizons. In Autumn/Winter 2008, Parallel Horizons toured Korea and Ireland. Suzanne has also worked with The Performance Corporation Theatre company and independent performers on a variety of projects.
Utilizing time-based and spatial media she references Romanticism, Landscape and the Urban Environment, looking at how we interact within and experience space and Place, individually and collectively. Using imagery from constructed contemporary city spaces and borrowing motifs and imagery from Romantic painting, her work questions established perceptions of the world we live in.
Mooney has received support from a number of funding bodies, including The Arts Council of Ireland and Culture Ireland. She has been awarded residencies in Iceland, Korea, Ireland and Spain and regularly travels to acquire material for new works.
