Mikola was born in Nagypeleske in 1884. He studied art at the Art School, Budapest, in Nagybánya and at the Julian Academy, Paris. His masters were Károly Ferenczy, István Réti and Jean Paul Laurens. He visited France, Italy and Germany. He worked as an art teacher in Nagybánya. Mikola, who maintained the Nagybánya traditions, was a living link between the past and the future of the Nagybánya school. Landscapes, where he developed a style of his own, represented the most important part of his art. He portrayed the sunny and hilly landscape around Nagybánya with a bluish sky above it by painting small spots of different colours moving. He produced delicate effects with movement and fresh colours. He died in Nagybánya in 1970.
