About the artist:
A student of the Julian Academy, Paris, and the École des Beaux-Arts, he worked in the studio of Cormon. He returned to Hungary in 1907. A leader of Hungarian postimpressionism, Márffi retained remnants of constructivism of his youth. In his works he combined the Paris school with Hungarian traditions. He travelled to America in 1928. He painted "Fruit Pickers", a large size panneau: rich in colours in 1949. Beside his tapestries, his lithographs ("St.John's Visitation") and portraits were remarkable.(Source: www.hung-art.hu)
