Painter and graphic artist. As a secondary school pupil in Szarvas, he started his career as a teacher of art. His studied at Vienna Academy from 1864 where his cartoons brought him success. Invited by comic papers, he went to Budapest in 1866 and from that time onwards, his cartoons were published in "Kikeriki" in Vienna, and "Bolond istók" and "Üstökös" in Budapest. His typical cartoon figures which were very popular appeared in "Borsszem Jankó". The number of his drawings amounts to 70,000. His best known genre pantings are "Grieving Outlaw" (1854), "A Toast to the Innkeeper", "Welcoming the Bride" (1855) and "Hungarian Peasant Ball" (1860).
