Gyula Hincz was a pupil of Gyula Rudnay and János Vaszary at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. He went to Paris in 1926 and in 1928 he became acquainted with Herwarth Walden in Berlin. In the following year he had an exhibiton with László Moholy-Nagy in the Sturm Gallery. In Budapest he regularly exhibited at the shows of KUT and UME. In 1930 and 1931 he won a scholarship to the Collegium Hungaricum in Rome. Later in 1943 he worked in Transylvania. Between 1946 and 1949 he was a teacher, then between 1958 and 1963 the director at the Academy of Applied Arts. Meanwhile he taught of the Academy of Fine Arts as well. He was commissioned to do several monumental works. Besides painting and graphic art he was engaged in sculpture as well.
