Painter, draughtsman and graphic. Training at the academy of Bergen (Mons) by Greuze and Motte and in Brussel under the tutorship of Richir and Jean Delville. In Brussel he became aware of the symbolic sphere. Won the Prix de Rome for engraving in 1911. Realized include classic portraits and figures which show influences of David and Ingres, also painted nudes, landscapes, still lifes and allegorical compositions. Had a muted color palette. Is described as the most Latin among the Walloon painters. Was a good friend of Anto Carte. Became in 1918 teacher and was director from 1929 to 1949 at the academy of Bergen (Mons). Work in museum Brussel, Antwerpen, Luik, Bergen, Doornik, Binche, La Louvière.
