About the artist:
Bonifazio Bembo belonged to a large family of Italian painters, active mainly in Cremona. Owing to frequent confusion over names, the biographies of the individual members of the family are difficult to reconstruct. Bonifazio was the son of Giovanni and the brother of Lorenzo, who was the father of Gianfrancesco who, according to Vasari, worked in Rome for Pope Leo X.
